Blaming China for the coronavirus pandemic, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said it posed a “major challenge” to the global economy as well as the US economy because they did not have the information and the ruling Communist Party “will pay a price” for it.
China has come under pressure from countries around the world over the lack of transparency in dealing with the coronavirus epidemic, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 190,870 people worldwide, with the US causing around 50,000 deaths.
President Donald Trump said that his administration was looking into reports that “escaped” from the Wuhan virology laboratory before the novel spread to the coronavirus world.
Pompeo told Fox News in an interview on Thursday night, “I am confident that what the Chinese Communist Party has done here will certainly cost us from America. I don’t know.”
However, he underlined that China was no longer focused on, but the goal of the US administration is to control the virus and revive the US economy.
“It’s on making sure we protect Americans, reduce health risks, keep people as healthy as we can, and get this economy back,” he said.
“But I am very confident. I talk to business people around the country. I talk to ordinary citizens – people who have risked their lives in the past weeks. They know that this is a result of this virus That generated. Wuhan, China, and they know that the Chinese government did not do the things that need to be done. There will be a cost associated with that, “Pompeo said.
Pompeo said it would be time to ensure that “we get this right” and to ensure that the US does not depend on China for its pharmaceutical goods.
